Introduction to Professional Floristry

The course consists of ten units:

  1. The Florist Shop – setting the scene, prices, staff duties and presentation
  2. From the grower to the shops – stem types, special treatments and special needs
  3. Introduction to learning the trade – Bouquets, hand ties
  4. Developing the basics – costing a design, shapes, styles, design and balance
  5. Taking a funeral order – funeral flowers, wiring, types of moss, foliage
  6. Special occasions – wedding anniversaries, birthdays, birth celebrations
  7. Wedding flowers – preparation and starting from scratch, designs,posies
  8. Silks and Drieds – dried grasses, ribbons and bases, spices, fruits and herbs
  9. Contracts and working outside the shop – working from a brief, fresh flowers
  10. Continental influences – preparing to enter a competition, cascade/waterfalls

Entry Requirements: Level 2 English

Assignments: 10 written assignments, one for each unit

Exams: None

Prison Support Requirements: Facilitate correspondence. Course can be done without physical flowers and cutting equipment, and designs can be drawn. Facilitating stationery is required if the learner has none.

Tutor Support: Yes, for up to 2 years
