Alongside our work supporting people in prison, we advocate for system-wide improvements in prison education.

We use our policy and advocacy work to improve prison education and show prisons, policymakers and the public the impact it can have — for people in prison, their families, and society. Our priorities are:

We want to see:

  • Better funding for prison education
  • More support for prison teachers and education staff
  • Better support for neurodiverse people and people with learning difficulties or disabilities

We want to see:

  • A clear strategy and timeline for the roll out of in-cell digital technology and internet access across all prisons
  • People in prison accessing digital devices in education departments, libraries and on wings
  • People in prison accessing high-quality digital content

We want to see:

  • A distance learning co-ordinator in every prison with the time and support to do the job properly
  • Learners able to access exams or assessments

We work with others to make change happen, and PET has expertise in bringing people together to do this.

If you would like to find out more about our policy work, or if you would be interested in working with PET on these issues, email Cassie Edmiston, Head of Fundraising and External Affairs.
